A sculptural beeswax candle in the form of a small guardian owl. Photerian’s Large Owl in Chestnut stands approximately 5.5" tall, sculpted with dense layered feathers, two pointed ear tufts at the crown, and the intense, watchful expression the series is known for. Its feathers are carved in fine relief, catching light the way only beeswax can: softly, almost velvety.
Unscented, it carries only the faint, natural warmth of honey from the wax itself. No added fragrance. Just flame, shadow, and presence.
The kind of small creature that gives a room the feeling someone is watching over it. In a good way.
WHY IT’S SPECIAL
Each owl is made one by one, and this Chestnut edition is one of the warmest in the series — a deep, almost chocolate-brown that catches warm yellow highlights at the brow, the eyes, and along the ridges of the feathers. The gradient reads like autumn woodland, late in the season, when everything settles into its deepest tones. Pure beeswax gives it a warm burn if lit, though many collectors keep this one unlit as a sculptural object. Natural variations in shade and texture are part of its handmade charm.

THE BRAND
Photerian is the candle practice of Keetja Allard, working from a studio in the Lower East Side of New York. The work began with a candlemaker’s eye and a collector’s obsession — Allard collects odd vintage candles alongside making her own — and has grown into a body of sculptural beeswax pieces shaped around recurring characters: kaiju, owls, lions, poodles. Each piece is hand-shaped, hand-finished, and one-of-a-kind. Photerian has been one of Takamichi Beauty Room’s most beloved artists for years.
