A sculptural taper candle that plays a quiet trick on the eye. The Black & White Illusion Candle uses color blocking and form to create the impression of a taper sitting inside a pillar — two familiar candle shapes, fused into one object that reads differently depending on where you stand.
Handcrafted in Indonesia using a layering technique that builds distinct wax colors into a single mold, then polished to a high-gloss finish. Made from RSO-certified palm wax produced in a Fairtrade-certified workshop, it burns longer than a soy or paraffin candle of the same size and supports primarily female artisans earning a living wage.
Unscented. Graphic. The kind of thing that earns a second look before it earns a flame.
WHY IT'S SPECIAL
- Trompe-l'oeil in wax: a layering technique creates the visual illusion of a taper inside a pillar — architecture built entirely from color and form.
- Designed by Thorunn Arnadottir, the Icelandic designer behind 54 Celsius, whose work starts from one consistent premise: turn the familiar into the unexpected.
- High-gloss polished finish: each candle is hand-buffed after molding, giving it the presence of a sculptural object as much as a functional one.
- RSO-certified palm wax from a Fairtrade-certified workshop in Indonesia: a longer burn time than soy or paraffin, and a cleaner supply chain.
- Unscented: designed to live in a space without competing with it.

THE BRAND
54 Celsius is a candle and décor company founded on good design and, in their words, a little bit of mischief. Based around the work of Icelandic designer Thorunn Arnadottir, the brand starts from the same place every time: take a familiar object and make it strange. Unexpected, graphic, occasionally unsettling. Each piece is designed to provoke a reaction — because reactions are emotions, and emotions are what stick around after the candle burns down. Sustainability runs through the whole operation: packaging is compostable, biodegradable, or recyclable, and single-use plastics have been eliminated across all products.
