Though the skincare and wellness market is saturated with brands purporting to be clean and organic, many of them—despite good intentions and a real desire to help people—don’t have the proper knowledge of formulations and aromatherapy. Namely: just because an ingredient is natural, doesn’t mean it’s healthy for the skin. And in some cases, it can be downright harmful.
But since Allan spent the span of two decades developing products merging the best of nature and science for some of the most respected names in skincare, such as Jurlique and Dermalogica, she’s in a unique position to understand what people want, and more importantly, need.
Since launching her namesake brand in 2018—coincidentally, the year we opened our doors—Allan has slowly rolled out new must-haves while maintaining her streamlined core collection, which includes the best-selling cult favorites Nude Luminosity Lipid Barrier Boosting Drops and Infusion of Youth Beautifying Oil.
This month, Takamichi Beauty Room will be unveiling Mary Allan’s new Phyto Blue line, a collection of five skincare essentials spotlighting blue tansy. Ahead, Allan discusses her reasoning behind the launch, blue tansy’s multitasking properties, and how to use each item.
What is blue tansy, and why is it such a powerhouse ingredient?
Blue tansy is a flowering plant that has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties. It is native to the Mediterranean region but is now grown in many parts of the world. The essential oil of blue tansy is highly concentrated and contains a number of active molecules that are beneficial for the skin.
It’s known for its anti-inflammatory properties and is a great choice for people with skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis. Blue tansy is also a rich source of antioxidants that can help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals.
Why did you launch the Phyto Blue line?
Blue tansy oil was one of the very first oils I learned about while obtaining my Holistic Aromatherapy Certification over two decades ago. It has always been one of my most treasured oils for its calming and anti-inflammatory benefits. Several years ago, I created my Phyto Blue collection as a multi-use solution for all skin types. I have been selling this collection for several years to my esthetician spa accounts and finally decided to release it for retail as I get so many requests for it.
How many products are in the new collection?
The Phyto Blue collection consists of five products. In addition to Blue Tansy, the collection contains our Phyto Blue Urban-Shield Complex™, an infusion of Master Antioxidants, Vitamin C, Ceramides, and Blue Spirulina for multiple skin benefits.
Would you be able to talk us through them?
Phyto Blue Cleansing Lotion is a hydrating cleansing milk for all skin types that thoroughly dissolves debris and makeup while maintaining the skin’s natural pH levels. It’s blended with Copper Gluconate and essential minerals to leave the skin completely soft and hydrated. Relaxing aromatic notes of Blue Tansy create a spa-like cleansing ritual.
A lipid-fortifying serum formulated with Azulene Extract from Blue Tansy Oil, Photo Blue Fortifying Drops calms sensitive skin from irritation. It’s especially helpful for post-care from sun exposure, waxing, and laser treatments.
Phyto Blue Restorative Sleeping Serum Mask is a silky and rich cream-gel mask infused with a next-generation NIO-Age Complex that works while the skin is at its optimal ability to repair itself during the sleep cycle. Phloretin, Magnolol/Honokiol, and Punica Granatum Seed Extract work in synergy to fight free radical damage, while Vitamin C helps work on skin imperfections. The sensorial properties of Blue Tansy quiet the mind for sleep.
