THE STORY
Obukucha means “Good Fortune Tea,” and its history stretches back over 1,000 years. In 951, when a serious epidemic swept through Kyoto, a Buddhist priest distributed tea to help ease suffering. That year, the emperor welcomed the New Year with a special cup of tea.
Since then, drinking Obukucha at the New Year has been a tradition—shared with loved ones as a wish for health, happiness, and good fortune in the year ahead.
