WHY IT’S SPECIAL
Two Traditional Woods
Light Wood — Japanese Cypress
Naturally antibacterial and water-resistant, with the clean, subtle aroma of a Japanese forest. The scent softens over time but can be refreshed by lightly sanding the handle. Rinse after use and dry in a shaded, well-ventilated spot to maintain the wood.
Dark Wood — Thermo-Treated
Natural wood treated with high-temperature steam to remove internal moisture, making it resistant to bacteria, mold, and warping.
Removable Brush Head
Designed for ease of cleaning, longevity, and versatility in use.
Horsehair Bristles
A mix of white and brown horsehair—chosen for their gentle scrub and durability.
THE BRAND
Shoji Works has been making brushes in Kakogawa, Hyōgo Prefecture since 1918. What began over a century ago as a small workshop dedicated to everyday household brushes has evolved into a rare, fully integrated brushmaker—one of the few in Japan that still carries out every step in-house, from selecting raw materials to final finishing.
The company’s philosophy is simple: a brush should serve the body with honesty and durability. They work with natural woods, traditional bristles, and hand-guided craftsmanship, refining each form until it feels balanced in the hand and gentle on the skin. Nothing is rushed; nothing is over-designed. Their tools are built to be used daily, to age well, and to quietly support the rituals of bathing, cleaning, and care that anchor everyday life in Japan.
From cypress scented with forest air to steam-treated dark wood engineered for moisture resistance, Shoji Works creates objects with a calm, utilitarian beauty—pieces that remain faithful to the Japanese belief that even the simplest tools should be made with intention and respect.
