A boxed set of five wood-mounted rubber stamps from Japan, drawn from the Heisei-era Godzilla films: one large Godzilla and four minis, each rendered in fine line work from scenes across the series. Officially licensed, with the rubber made by Tokyo Seihansho.
WHY IT’S SPECIAL
In 1984, after nearly a decade of absence, Godzilla came back darker and more serious, a monster shaped by anxieties over science, technology and what humanity does with both. The films that followed, known as the Heisei or VS series, pitted him against a plant grown from his own cells, a mechanical double and a crystalline twin from outer space, before ending with Godzilla vs. Destoroyah in 1995. This set draws its scenes from five of those films, condensed into line drawings that keep the pose and the menace. The high-definition natural rubber gives a clean print with very light pressure, which matters when the subject has this much detail in his dorsal spines. It is stationery first, which is the only way we could carry anything licensed, and it makes a peculiar addition to a letter, a planner or the inside cover of a book you plan on lending.

THE BRAND
Toho Co. is the Tokyo film studio that sent Godzilla ashore in 1954 and has reinvented him roughly once a generation since. The Heisei films of the late 1980s and 1990s are the ones where the fights became the main event. For this set, Toho’s monster is reduced to line drawings and cut into high-definition rubber by Tokyo Seihansho, which is about as small as Godzilla has ever been allowed to get.
