A handblown Japanese glass tumbler from Sghr Sugahara's Duo collection — one of the studio's best-selling designs and one of its most technically ambitious. Two layers of glass, each a different thickness and color, are fused together along a single sealed line. The result is a glass that looks as if it already holds liquid, even when it's empty. Blue meets amber where the two layers meet, and the light refracts through the fusion in a way that reads unmistakably like a sunset caught in glass.
The silhouette is classic and modern at once: straight sides, clean lines, and a small hand-formed dimple at the fusion line — a subtle detail the studio describes as evoking the collar of a kimono. The tumbler has real weight in the hand. Substantial without being heavy.
Made in Tokyo by artisans at Sghr Sugahara, a Japanese glass studio founded in 1932. Each piece is individually mouth-blown and finished by hand. Small variations in form, subtle bubbles, and faint lines are inherent to the making — the mark of the glassblower's breath rather than a machine.
Holds 6.8 oz / 200ml. Right for water, juice, cocktails, or a considered pour of something stronger.
WHY IT'S SPECIAL
- Handblown in Tokyo by Sghr Sugahara: a glassmaker founded in 1932, still making every piece by hand nearly a century later.
- Two-layer fusion technique: a technically demanding process the studio developed in-house — two glass layers of different thickness and color, sealed along a single line. The glass appears to hold liquid even when empty.
- Sunset color effect: soft blue at the top, warm amber at the base, the two meeting in a curved line that catches the light like a horizon.
- Kimono collar detail: a small dimple at the fusion line — a hand-formed detail meant to echo the folded collar of a kimono.
- One of Sghr Sugahara's best-selling designs: the Duo collection has been a signature of the studio for years.
- Individually mouth-blown: small bubbles, faint lines, and subtle variations in form are inherent to the process. Each piece is one of a kind.
- Sold individually.

THE BRAND
Sghr Sugahara has been making glass in Tokyo since 1932 — nearly a century of practice, still entirely by hand. The studio's approach borrows from traditional Japanese design principles: simplicity, restraint, and a preference for form that reveals the material rather than obscures it. Every piece is individually mouth-blown by an artisan, then finished by hand. The variations that result — small bubbles, subtle asymmetries, differences in weight from one piece to the next — are part of the object. Not flaws. Signatures.
