Dogabi Incense Burner No. 307 embodies the whimsical defiance of Korea’s dokkaebi — a guardian spirit known to delight, protect, and occasionally cause a little trouble. Hand-thrown in white porcelain and sculpted with pierced openings, this one-eyed goblin features soft celadon hues, a wash of pastel glaze across its brow, and gleaming 23.5 k gold teeth and horns. When incense burns within, smoke rises through its open mouth and nostrils, giving the impression that the Dogabi itself is exhaling with satisfaction.
WHY IT’S SPECIAL
Part of Kim Hyung-Jun’s celebrated Dogabi series, No. 307 merges centuries-old Korean ceramic tradition with surreal humor. Each piece is fired at 2,282 °F for its porcelain structure, then again at 1,472 °F to set the glaze and gold — a dual process that creates depth, durability, and luster. The pierced design allows incense smoke to animate the piece, transforming it into a living sculpture — protective, watchful, and alive with personality.

THE BRAND
Crafted at THR Ceramic Studio in Goyang, South Korea, Kim Hyung-Jun’s Dogabi series draws on ancient dokkaebi folklore — trickster spirits who mirror the mood of those who encounter them. Each sculpture is unique, numbered, and entirely hand-formed, combining the raw humor of myth with contemporary artistry. Available exclusively at Takamichi Beauty Room, these creations celebrate imperfection, play, and spirit in material form.
