BANKO-YAKI TECHNIQUE
Banko-yaki is one of Japan’s most enduring ceramic traditions, originating in the 18th century in Yokkaichi. Merchant Nunami Rouzan marked his earthenware with the phrase banko fueki (“eternity, constancy”), wishing that these objects would be passed down for generations. Known for their unique heat resistance and earthy character, Banko-yaki ceramics today account for 70–80% of Japan’s earthenware production, blending everyday function with timeless artistry.
