A handbuilt ceramic votive in celadon green with 24k gold along the rim — every fold, every edge, every crack where the clay decided its own direction, traced in gold. At 3.5 inches wide and 1.75 inches tall, this is a small object with a lot going on.
The form is entirely organic — ruffled, irregular, somewhere between a flower and something pulled from the ocean floor. No two are alike. Mariette Groen makes these in small batches and each one comes out differently: a deeper ruffle here, a wider spread there, the celadon pooling in its own way each time. The 24k gold follows the edge of whatever the clay became.
Light a votive inside and the celadon glows. The gold catches the flame. It becomes something else entirely in the dark.

Catto Studio is the ceramic practice of Mariette Groen — handbuilt objects that sit between utility and storytelling. Inspired by natural forms, seasonal rhythms, and the slow logic of making things by hand, each piece is meant to be lived with quietly. Not decorative in the obvious sense.
