THE BRAND
CATTO Design Studio, based in Brooklyn, NY, was founded by Dutch artist Mariette Groen. Influenced by her Dutch roots, daily life in New York, and time spent in India, Italy, and London, her work balances function with artistry. Each ceramic is hand-built or wheel-thrown, using a wide variation of clays, glazes, and kiln techniques that emphasize experimentation and spontaneity. “You open the kiln, and there is a big surprise; I love that,” says Groen. CATTO’s evolving style conveys beauty, lightness, and often a touch of humor, resulting in pieces that are both decorative and deeply functional—designed to be cherished in everyday life.
