A handbuilt ceramic vase in white with a dark glazed lemon branch wrapping around the neck — four vivid yellow lemons, a few white blossoms, thorns, and all. At 7½ inches tall, it is as much a sculptural object as it is a vase, and it reads differently from every angle. The dimpled, organic body. The grid-textured cylinder neck. The branch that looks like it grew there.
Mariette Groen built this one from the kind of close looking that takes time — the weight of a lemon on a branch, the moment just before the blossom opens, the particular dark of old citrus wood. Every detail is hand-applied and glazed individually. The lemons catch the light. The branch wraps and twists. The blossom sits at the rim like a quiet punctuation mark.
The narrow opening is made for a single stem, a sprig of something delicate, or nothing at all. It works either way.
WHY IT'S SPECIAL
- Hand-applied lemon branch detail: dark glazed branch with three vivid yellow lemons, thorns, and a white blossom — built and glazed individually by hand.
- Matte white dimpled body with grid-textured neck: two different surface treatments on a single piece, evidence of how much is happening in the making.
- Narrow opening: designed for a single stem or a small sprig — or to stand entirely on its own.
- Each piece is singular: this is not a series. It is a piece.
- Handbuilt by Mariette Groen of Catto Studio in small batches — what you see is what exists.

THE BRAND
Catto Studio is the ceramic practice of Mariette Groen — handbuilt objects that sit between utility and storytelling. Inspired by natural forms, seasonal rhythms, and the slow logic of making things by hand, each piece is meant to be lived with quietly. Not decorative in the obvious sense. More like something that belongs wherever you put it, and you can't quite imagine the room without it anymore.
