Dogabi Sculptural Jar No. 3 emerges like a vision from another realm—its single golden eye gleaming under curved horns, its face alive with both menace and delight. Hand-thrown and sculpted by Hyung Jun Kim at THR Studio in South Korea, this one-of-a-kind work embodies the playful ferocity of the Dogabi spirit. The swirling blue beard motif and glistening ivory glaze give it a dynamic presence, as though the figure might break into laughter—or a roar—at any moment.
Part of Kim’s continuing exploration of Korean mythology through form, color, and texture, Jar No. 3 stands as a sculptural character, rich with humor, history, and gleam.
This piece will be on view at Takamichi Beauty Room in New York on October 22.
WHY IT’S SPECIAL
Thrown and carved from a proprietary clay developed at THR Studio, the piece combines precision craftsmanship with unpredictable alchemy. High-temperature oxidation firing at 2,282 °F produces subtle tonal shifts, while the 23.5 K gold accents and hand-painted detailing lend it a supernatural glow.
Dogabi No. 3 exemplifies Kim’s vision: ceramics that channel folklore into living sculpture—expressive, uncanny, and unmistakably contemporary.

THE BRAND
Dogabi by Hyung Jun Kim
Rooted in Korean myth yet wholly contemporary, Dogabi translates the goblin-like spirits of legend into tangible form. Each piece is individually hand-thrown, carved, and glazed at Kim’s South Korean studio, where clay becomes a vessel for laughter, awe, and the uncanny. Every Dogabi work is a guardian spirit of its own making.
