STORY
In Korean folklore, the Dogabi (goblin) was said to wield mysterious powers, appearing in many forms to either bless or punish humans. Mischievous yet generous, Dogabis startled people with odd faces, played tricks with childlike humor, and bestowed abundance with a smile.
Through the Dogabi series, Hyung Jun Kim translates these mythic qualities into ceramic form. Each oil lamp captures a facet of Dogabi’s spirit—humorous, uncanny, and full of character—brought to life through textures, expressions, and extraordinary glaze colors.
THE BRAND
THR-Ceramics was founded in 2003 by two ceramic artists in South Korea. The studio produces both functional artworks for daily use and collectible sculptural pieces, aiming to make pottery approachable while showcasing its artistic depth.
The Dogabi series is created by Hyung Jun Kim, who earned his MFA in Ceramics at the National University of Technology in Seoul. Drawing inspiration from human emotion and folklore, Kim emphasizes glaze serendipity and texture, crafting unusual, expressive finishes. Each Dogabi piece is a singular ceramic expression, balancing tradition, humor, and artistry.
