Dogabi Oil Lamp No. 833 reimagines a traditional Korean horong oil lamp as a whimsical goblin head—equal parts charm, myth, and mischief. Hand-thrown from white porcelain and sculpted by Kim Hyung-Jun, this expressive Dogabi is glazed in soft celadon green with rosy undertones and adorned with gleaming 23.5 k gold horns and teeth. Two watchful eyes, highlighted in gold, give the piece a disarmingly animated presence. When lit, the cotton wick glows through the porcelain surface, as though the goblin itself had come to life.
WHY IT’S SPECIAL
Each Dogabi lamp merges function and fantasy—crafted with the same intensity as Kim’s sculptural works but made to perform a quiet ritual of light. Fired twice at 2,102 °F and 1,472 °F, the glaze develops a luminous depth that shifts from jade to sea-mist green under changing light. Whether used as a functional oil lamp or a standalone sculpture, No. 833 bridges folklore and design, evoking the spirit of dokkaebi who illuminate the night with playful wisdom.
