AFAR Magazine Feature: Takamichi Beauty Room, New York
We are honored to be featured in AFAR, the award-winning travel magazine known for documenting places that shape culture around the world.
In its recent guide to New York’s evolving Korean cultural landscape, AFAR included Takamichi Beauty Room among a new generation of destinations redefining how Korean creativity is experienced in the city.
They described the shop as “a jewel box of a beauty and gift shop in Gramercy Park,” highlighting our ongoing work discovering emerging artists and independent brands—particularly those whose objects exist somewhere between ritual, design, and folklore.
From Kim Hyung-Jun’s mischievous Dogabi ceramics to unexpected objects that challenge traditional ideas of beauty, Takamichi Beauty Room has always been built on instinct rather than category.
What continues to draw us to Korean artists and brands is their rare balance of precision and irreverence—the ability to be refined without losing humor, and expressive without losing restraint.
Takamichi Beauty Room was created as an extension of Takamichi Hair, the New York salon founded by Takamichi Saeki, and remains guided by the same philosophy: that daily rituals deserve objects chosen with care.
We are deeply grateful to AFAR for recognizing the store as part of this cultural moment.
