In Sakata, Yamagata Prefecture, the traditional craft of assembling the wooden parts of chests of drawers for ships has been passed down for generations. They do not use nails or screws to assemble the wooden parts. Kato Mokko aims for sustainable production with consideration for the environment and avoids using petroleum-based resin parts and packaging materials to the furthest extent possible.
They use wood from Yamagata Prefecture’s Shonai region, where Sakata is located, to develop products that convey history and culture.
